It looks like there's going to be yet another Star Trek movie and Captain James T. Kirk is going to be back. A new report confirms that Star Trek 4 is finally back in production. The highly anticipated movie has found a new writer and director who will be working on the sequel. In addition to that, Chris Pine has agreed to reprise his role in the sci-fi franchise's reboot.

According to Deadline, Legion creator Noah Hawley has agreed to direct Star Trek 4 for Paramount Pictures. He will also be tasked with writing the screenplay for the long-delayed sequel. Additionally, Hawley will produce the film through his 26 Keys production and J.J. Abrams' Bad Robot banner.

The fourth Star Trek movie will be Noah Hawley's sophomore directorial effort. He recently wrote and produced his directorial debut Lucy in the Sky, which starred Natalie Portman as an astronaut who gets involved in criminal activities while having a romantic affair with a fellow astronaut. Hawley is also known for his work on Fargo, My Generation, and The Unusuals.

Noah Hawley's involvement in Star Trek 4 is welcome news for Trekkies who have been concerned that the sequel will never get produced. Back in August 2018, the film was in danger of being cancelled after both Chris Pine and Chris Hemsworth walked away from the project. Although it was unclear why the two stars decided to leave the movie, there are speculations that both Pine and Hemsworth were demanding bigger paychecks to reprise their roles as Captain James T. Kirk and his father George Kirk, respectively. However, Paramount Pictures had reportedly pointed out that they are keeping a strict budget for the film.

Luckily, Paramount Pictures was able to win back at least one of the A-list stars. It has been revealed that Chris Pine will return as Captain James T. Kirk in Star Trek 4. For now, it is still unclear if Chris Hemsworth will be brought back to reprise his role as George Kirk. However, there is a possibility that Noah Hawley will be taking the sequel in an entirely different direction that will not involve the Captain's dead father.

Star Trek 4 will also bring back Karl Urban, Zachary Quinto, Zoe Saldana, John Cho, and Simon Pegg. The film will not recast Pavel Chekov after the passing of Anton Yelchin. For now, the movie has not yet been given an official release date.
