"Overwatch 2" is still a long way off, and according to Game Director Jeff Kaplan, he has no idea when the game is releasing. Fortunately, we still get some interesting details about the upcoming game. The latest includes exciting details about progression, story missions, and so much more.
The latest details about "Overwatch 2" was recently shared by Lead Writer Michael Chu and Assistant Game Director Aaron Keller. They both participated in the Q&A with PlayStation Blog and answered some nagging questions about "Overwatch 2." We learned from the lead writer that the story mode of the upcoming game would have a proper structure.
Story missions will follow the traditional way of telling a story in the "Overwatch" universe, Chu revealed. The "Overwatch 2" story will be a complete one with beginning, middle, and end. The game will move forward following Winston's recall, and we will push events into the future in the upcoming stories in the game, the lead writer claimed.

This is definitely a piece of exciting news for "Overwatch 2" fans who have been left wondering about the return of "Overwatch," plans of Talon, and several other remaining plot threads. In terms of story missions, Assistant Director Aaron Keller revealed that the maps of the upcoming game would be twice as large as the current maps available in multiplayer. There is also more advanced technology introduced in the game, such as dynamic weather, explosions, lightning, and more.
At Blizzcon for Overwatch 2 you queued into a match normally and then only 2 of each role could be selected. So once 2 dps are picked it locks until one of them unselects. I really like the idea of this for ranked to get rid of the Q times and multiple SR’s headache. Thoughts? — Nateson (@Natesonn) November 20, 2019
Progression in "Overwatch 2" is separate for PvP and Campaign, Keller disclosed. Our objective is to create a robust, meaningful progression system that supplies into the Hero Missions where gamers can replay and play for long hours after they have completed the "Overwatch 2" story, explained Keller. The assistant game director also offered exciting details about the new heroes releasing in the game, aside from earlier revealed Sojourn.
Blizzard has a lot of heroes in the development but said that they could not get into who these heroes really are exactly, Keller said. The assistant game director, however, shared that upcoming "Overwatch 2" heroes will help round up the Overwatch universe and offer new gameplay mechanics that gamers have never seen before.
