Jose Mourinho making his presence felt at Old Trafford again would naturally make the news. But the former United manager's return was overshadowed by a sterling performance from Marcus Rashford. And thanks to the Red Devils forward, Manchester picked up three points via a 2-1 victory against Tottenham.

It was all a Rashford show that stunned the visiting club. The striker scored early in the game to give United a good start in collecting a win. However, the Spurs managed to equalize courtesy of Dele Alli, thus making the duel even more exciting.

The England international though, appeared determined to showcase how great he has become since the exit of Mourinho from United. Rashford scored a penalty and delivered a win to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, which also translated to a disappointment for Mourinho.

The win at Old Trafford was much deserved judging on the way the Red Devils played, according to Fox Sports.

"United were indeed united, battling until the final whistle ... to protect the advantage secured by Rashford," the report said.

United's conquest of a Mourinho-led Tottenham served to arrest the club's losing streak in all competitions. Essentially and thanks to Rashford largely, United and Solskjaer gained a breather after three successive disappointments.

Most importantly, the latest success will at least ensure that the rumored sacking of Solskjaer is not happening anytime soon.

While unhappy with the outcome, Mourinho can only praise the player that he once mentored and now the cause of his trouble.

"He was good, he was really good," Metro reported the Portuguese coach as saying.

Mourinho could not help but take some credits on how Rashford operates on the pitch now, stating that "I told him exactly the way he does things."

For his part, Solskjaer has affirmed Rashford has become better than ever. He beamed that the striker has just displayed his best form versus Tottenham.

"It's the best he's had under me. He was mature, strong against good Premier League players. His penalty was calm and composed," the Norwegian was reported as saying.

Mourinho admitted that United played strong, and it was evident in the match's first 30 minutes. In that period alone, it was easy to see that the Red Devils marched to the pitch wanting and ready to win, he said, adding the best side won the game.

"I think they deserved the victory by their first half. We didn't start well at all," said the former United manager.
