When news broke out that Kevin Love has officially joined the NBA trading block, one scenario dreamt by pundits was the power forward linking up with league superstars and recreating the winning ways of the Cleveland Cavaliers. An ideal destination for Love would be Brooklyn, a team currently headlined by Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant.
With the Nets, Love can get another shot at an NBA ring by teaming up anew with Irving and get KD to fill up the slot of LeBron James. It's easy to imagine that Brooklyn will be transformed into an NBA superteam with the Cavs big man heading East.
"Without an injured Kevin Durant, Brooklyn isn't expected to compete for a title this season, but acquiring Love would raise their ceiling and put them on the same tier as everyone behind the Milwaukee Bucks in the East," Hoops Hype reported.
Love is expected to rekindle the fire that saw him shining working with Irving and James, given that Brooklyn has the right elements to win games and possibly an NBA title with him on-board.
"Love's post game, one that will be able to flourish again on a team with more threats to score besides just him, will garner the Nets simple buckets when needed," the report added.
To be sure, Love's perimeter shots that sometimes extend beyond the arc and rebounding power will be of great benefit to the Nets. And these would be further weaponized once KD comes back to top form. Brooklyn would have a triple threat in Love, Irving, and Durant, and in no time, the competition will see them in superteam status, according to Fadeaway World.
It will be like in 2016 when the Cavs snatched the title away from the Warriors. The latter was a juggernaut at that time, winning 73 games in the regular season only to be stopped in seven games by Cleveland. And Love was a prominent figure in that successful campaign.
Inquisitr said Love will only flourish in Brooklyn as he is seen to quickly figure out his role with the club.
"Love won't need to make huge adjustments with his game in Brooklyn ... Love has managed to learn how to efficiently play in an off-ball capacity, making it easier for him to accept the role as the Nets' third wheel," the report said.
Love as a prized acquisition is backed by his performance so far in the season. He averages 16.7 points, 10.7 rebounds, and 2.8 assists on the floor. How deadly a sniper he remains true with a shooting percentage of 44.6, and as a bonus, Love's three-point conversion rate stands at 37.6 percent.
To convince the Cavs, however, to agree to a deal, the Nets will need to absorb the power forward's huge salary. In addition, Brooklyn will need to package an offer with a first-round pick or in its stead, young blood that Cleveland could find useful on their planned rebuilding.
