Manchester United won a crucial match over Manchester City at the Etihad. It appears that extreme pressure is working well with Norwegian coach Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as Red Devils bagged a win. However, the match was marred by racists abuse towards Fred, reports say.

An object reportedly struck Manchester United midfielder Fred during the Manchester Derby at the Etihad Stadium. The 26 years old Brazilian footballer went over to make a corner kick right after the hour mark where discontent fans reportedly greeted him. Supporters of Manchester City mocked Fred while some are throwing objects on his direction and one eventually hitting him, reports Daily Mail.

Fred was seen clutching onto the back of his neck and in some pain but fortunately was not gravely hurt by the incident. Manchester City fans continued making offensive scenes at the time of the corner kick, perhaps frustrated with the 2-0 score. Fred held the back of his head while referee Anthony Taylor stopped the game. Manchester City midfielder Fernandinho was seen urging supporters to behave as the club attempted to get back into the game.

Eventually, the referee waved play to continue the game with Manchester United leading 2-0. The 26 years old Brazilian footballer managed to play on, but the camera shots shared by SkySports show what seemed like multiple lighters and a water bottle on the pitch by the corner flag. The Red Devils surprised its rival Manchester United at its own home after launching a 2-0 in just the first half.

Marcus Rashford emerged from the penalty spot following a fouled charged to Bernardo Silva. Anthony Martial added a quickfire and doubled United's lead shortly after. Manchester City went into the match 14 points adrift of Liverpool, which is currently at the top of the table after winning the game against Bournemouth. Fred played a vital role for the United's side in the middle of the field showcasing one of his best performances for the current season.

The 26 years old Brazilian footballer was Manchester City's target before he inked a £53m deal in 2018 to move at Old Trafford. He suffered a tough first season but has shown better form since his return to the side following Paul Pogba's injury. During the match at the Etihad, Pogba was in the stands but, Norwegian coach Ole Gunnar Solkjaer admitted that the French footballer is still several weeks away from coming back to the fold.
