Queen Elizabeth has to be fair all the time when it comes to politics. Even if she has opinions about any parties, she has to keep them to herself.
But, Queen Elizabeth’s former advisor revealed the monarch’s real views on British politics in general. Just because she should keep mum about what she feels and thinks about politics, does not mean she doesn’t keep tabs at all.
“The Queen doesn’t make distinctions between politicians of different parties,” former Clerk of the Privy Council, Sir Godfrey Agnew, said in Karen Dolby’s book. “They all roughly belong to the same social category in her view.”
Meanwhile, British voters are casting their ballots. By law, the Royal Family members are allowed to vote. But to maintain the neutrality of The Crown, successors refrain from voting.
But despite Queen Elizabeth and the royal family’s effort in trying to be as neutral as possible, Her majesty was not spared from criticisms. The Queen was slammed by CEO of an organization that is calling for the abolition of the monarchy in the UK and the election of a head of state, Graham Smith, for allegedly doing an “unlawful thing” back in August.
“If Parliament had been prorogued by an elected head of state, on the advice of the Prime Minister, that head of state would now have to resign,” he said in a statement. “The Queen was given instruction to do an unlawful thing, and she did it. We’re always told she has the benefit of decades of experience, and yet she couldn’t see what was obvious to everyone else, that the Prime Minister’s motives were not honest. It cannot be the case that a head of state is constitutionally bound to do an unconstitutional thing. And ‘I was doing what I was told’ is no defense.”
Meanwhile, it was previously reported that Queen Elizabeth might be stepping down sooner than expected and let Prince Charles take the throne. While it seems that Her Majesty still has enough gas to lead the monarchy, a royal expert claims that she could soon abdicate as Queen.
Richard Betherlson claims that Prince Charles had been "fundamentally running the Royal Family" for years, so it would be an easy decision for Queen Elizabeth to allow her son to take full control of the monarchy. The royal expert then pointed out that Prince Philip’s retirement was already a sign that Her Majesty will not be staying in the throne much longer.
Queen Elizabeth, the royal family, and the Buckingham Palace have not addressed these speculations.
