People are already expecting big things happening in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker this December. After all, it's going to be the final movie of the Skywalker Saga and there is little doubt that the film will provide an epic conclusion for the beloved series. But will Star Wars Episode 9 actually dig into one of the franchise's most beloved properties? A new clip from The Rise of Skywalker may have revealed an awesome Knights of the Old Republic Easter Egg.

The Star Wars Episode 9 clip was shared on Facebook and it reveals a dark planet that looks a lot like Mustafar, the volcanic world where Darth Vader once resided in. Kylo Ren lands his TIE Fighter and immediately enters a shaft that brings him underground. As he descends, Kylo hears the voice of Emperor Palpatine saying, "My boy, I have been every voice you have ever heard inside your head." Kylo then aims his lightsaber at an unseen opponent.

It's a dark scene considering that it appears that Kylo Ren has found Emperor Palpatine's hideout. Interestingly, this mysterious new location might actually hold powerful secrets because of something that fans have spotted in the background as Kylo Ren descended. At one point, there appears to be a statue of Darth Nihilus behind Kylo. You can view it here.

So is this a connection to Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic? Darth Nihilus is a Sith who appears in the game and it would make sense that he has a statue in Emperor Palpatine's hideout, which could be a shrine dedicated to the Dark Side of the Force. However, it is important to point out that the details about the scene in Star Wars Episode 9 has not yet been confirmed. With that in mind, it would be best to take this with a grain of salt.

The connection to Knights of the Old Republic might still be uncertain but it would be a great way to connect The Rise of Skywalker to another film. There have been reports that there will be a Star Wars movie based on KOTOR in the future. The scene would be an excellent way to introduce newer fans to the other side of the franchise. Hopefully, there will be more references to the video game in Episode 9.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker will hit theaters on December 20.
