Meghan Markle was told against getting married to a member of the royal family. She had people telling her not to marry Prince Harry but she went against their advice.

The Duchess of Sussex has openly complained about the kind of media scrutiny the royal family receives from the media. She and Prince Harry, who lodged legal action against a few British tabloid outlets in the last three months, are two of the most popular royals.

However, according to the experts, this publicity is "sort of expected," per royal commentator Anne Diamond. Meghan knew what would happen if she married a royal but she ignored the advice instead of listening to those around her.

She reportedly stopped talking to her British agent Gina Nelthorpe-Cowne when things got serious between her and Prince Harry. In an interview with Daily Mail, Nelthorpe-Cowne told Meghan that marrying Prince Harry would be the end of her normal life. However, the Duchess of Sussex apparently shut her out because she didn't want to hear anything negative about her blossoming relationship while they were still dating.

Meghan ended her business ties with Nelthorpe-Cowne in October 2017. A few weeks later, Prince Harry and Meghan confirmed that they were engaged.

The Duchess of Sussex admitted in the documentary Harry and Meghan: An African Journey that she while she expected the scrutiny, she thought the British tabloid would be fair. Since giving birth to Archie Harrison in May 2019, Meghan and Prince Harry have had a lot of bad publicity surrounding their royal life.

Meanwhile, Meghan and Prince Harry, along with their son Archie Harrison, are currently on a six-week holiday break in the United States. Friends say that they deserve to be away from the spotlight, albeit for a short period only, to recharge and recuperate following the spate of bad press.

According to Vanity Fair, the Sussex royals' busy and difficult year is ending quietly. Royal biographer Andrew Morton reflected that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex had a generally successful year despite the negative press. The expert said that just like Princess Diana or even the Duchess of York, Sarah Ferguson, Meghan received unfair treatment from the press because royal women are more often scrutinized than men.

However, Meghan handled this challenging year to the best of what she can do as the newest member of the royal family. She gave birth to a beautiful child and went to various royal engagements in London and abroad. She delivered competent speeches and had a chance to make Queen Elizabeth laugh at one event.
