The Lakers would love having Andre Iguodala, and as already suggested in many reports, the feeling seemed mutual. The 2015 Finals MVP appeared determined to cap a career with another NBA ring, and he knows the chance is higher to realize that dream in Los Angeles.
True to form, the Lakers have been doing great with the explosive tandem of LeBron James and Anthony Davis. Already, the club has racked up 20 plus wins and barring any unforeseen events, a ticket to the playoffs, and eventually to the 2020 Finals seemed on the bag.
That exactly is the chief reason Iguodala is sitting out in the regular season. He is now with the Grizzlies but has yet to appear in a single game. He has made clear that he would prefer playing in Los Angeles and Memphis, as of writing, is finding ways to make it happen.
No. 1 on Iguodala's list is the Lakers, and that's because "the Lakers keep winning with a healthy LeBron James and Anthony Davis," Bleacher Report said.
On their part, the Lakers are equally resolved to bring over Iguodala, and for a host of reasons. Iguodala has the championship experience, and it counts a lot on the team's quest to win a Larry O'Brien after years of drought.
Iguodala, too, has the leadership bone that his destination team will certainly see as a plus. With the Lakers, he is an asset as he will lighten the load on James every time he's operating on the court.
And Iguodala is willing to play a role assigned to him, and to be sure, he'll get things done with sterling results.
However, the real gem of Iguodala as far as the Lakers are concerned is his ability to intimidate when called on neutralize a star on the opposing team. Trading up for Iguodala remains a difficult maneuver for the Lakers as they don't have the resources that might interest the Grizzlies. Los Angeles can just hope that Memphis will eventually go to the buyout route.
