Following the confirmation that Erling Haaland had a meeting with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Ed Woodward, it seemed written in stone that the young striker will agree to a £76 million transfer deal with Manchester United. However, Haaland wants to make clear he'd be playing under the Norwegian boss.
The Red Bull Salzburg ace has previously worked with Solskjaer in Norway, and it seemed he plans to do the same if he is donning the Red Devils jersey soon. It was an assurance that Haaland is working to get from Woodward, United's executive vice-chairman.
"The forward wants assurances that the club is going to stick by the Norwegian and, should he be given them, United will be favorites for his signature," Metro reported.
Apparently, Haaland is concerned about the circulating rumors that Solskjaer could be axed in light of the struggling performance by United in the season.
"Haaland has reservations about Solskjaer's position and is worried that his mentor could leave the club if results don't pick up," added the report.
However, there was no mention if Woodward has obliged and gave his word that the United boss is secure on his. Recently, the United board has indicated that Solskjaer enjoys the full confidence of the club and has the support needed for his rebuilding plans for the team.
In any case, United has presented its case before Haaland's camp, and it appeared the youngster is now inclined to affix his signature on an offer sheet.
Another condition, however, was voiced out during the discussion and specifically coming from Haaland's father. The teen sensation is ready to sign a contract but would want to stay in Austria until the end of the season, the Express reported.
"Haaland and his dad Alfe-Inge would prefer for the player to spend the remainder of the season at RB Salzburg sand continue to score goals there. Salzburg, of course, would prefer that to be the case," transfer expert Ian McGarry said, and per the same report.
If true that such a signing condition exists, it runs in counter to the plan by United to immediately make Haaland play on the remaining games of United for the season. It is hoped that the youngster will boost the chance of the Reds improving on their standing not only in England but in all competitions.
It is highly likely, however, that United will make the adjustment. The club, according to Express, is "said to be coming round to the idea of loaning Haaland out for the second half of the campaign if it means beating Europe's elite to his transfer."
For his part, Solskjaer seemed willing to wait until next season for Haaland to actually appear as part of the Red Devils.
