Outlander season 5 is set to premiere on Starz this coming February 2020. In the latest installment, most of the characters will be facing problems and challenges. But aside from their struggles, viewers can also expect some cool stuff, such as the arrival of Adso -- Jamie and Claire's feline.
Outlander season 5 recently shared a photo of the couple, in which Jamie holding Adso, who is set to arrive in the new installment. Adso is a cat and similar to the one found in The Fiery Cross by Diana Gabaldon. In this source material, Jamie gave the feline to Claire as he believes the animal would be able to prevent rodent infestation in Claire's surgery.
Readers of Gabaldon's literary series might be familiar with Adso since the cat was often present in the big house on Fraser's Ridge. Adso has a practical purpose in Outlander season 5 and could bring similar charm the Rollo brought during the previous season, though it's yet to be seen whether Young Ian or his beloved dog again will be back in the new installment.
According to CarterMatt, the biggest challenge of Outlander season 5 is working with a cat. It's also a challenge how the production team was able to get a cat to do what they wanted, especially since they couldn't just get an animal and then do just about anything. Perhaps, they'll hire a trainer to make sure everything will all be fine without too many hitches.
In another related report, Outlander season 5 is probably the most exciting installment so far. The new season will see Jamie and Lord John Grey might be at odds, as some speculated the latter will betray his good friend. Lord John's loyalty will be conflicted; he loves Jamie but he also knows the Highlander cares deeply for outlaw Murtagh.
There's a chance Lord John will betray Jamie by taking on Murtagh's side. However, some suggest he'll find another way; killing Murtagh rather than letting him escape. Lord John Grey actor David Berry previously told Entertainment Tonight what's next for his character. He said Lord John will be torn between the Crown and the Frasers and his situation brings drama in the latest installment.
Murtagh's fate is also in question in the latest season as the character was dead in Diana Gabaldon's original novels. His death may come at some point to align the series within the novel. It's worth noting that the fifth installment is entirely based on the source text with content from two novels merged into one -- The Fiery Cross and A Breath of Snow and Ashes.
Outlander season 5 premiered on Sunday, Feb. 16, on Starz.
