A new patent, which appears to be the continuation of older patents submitted by Apple in October, and in 2015, reveals the company's plans of creating an Apple Smart Ring that can communicate with other electronic devices. The latest patent is titled "Wearable Electronic Ring Computing Device." It aims at creating a Smart Ring that has electronic components like a wireless transceiver, power supply, microphone, and a processor, among others.
Unknown to many, Apple has been toying with the concept of a Smart Ring years before the Amazon Echo Loop was introduced. The Cupertino company filed a patent for a Smart Ring that enables users to do some functions of their electronic devices even without touching them. The patent also reveals that the Apple Smart Ring has several components that will notify the user that it is functioning.
These components include haptic actuators that could provide force feedback. The Apple Smart Ring is like a smaller version of Apple Watch, only that it is worn on the finger, said Apple Insider in a report released in October. This nifty device is capable of tracking the movements of the user, could double as a fitness tracker and could transmit data to a Mac to unlock it.
The new patent would like to add more features to the Apple Smart Ring by infusing it with the ability to recognize and learn, pointing and hand gestures reveals Patently Apple. Additionally, it would be able to change the output of an electronic device like adjusting the volume of the sound. Moreover, the patent details how the Apple Smart Ring would be able to manipulate the temperature output and change the brightness level of one or more lights.
The new Apple Smart Ring patent highlights that the device could function more than communicate with an iPhone or iPad. There is a great chance that it could allow users to control other smart home appliances too. While this latest patent reveals a lot of interesting features of Apple Smart Ring, it is worth mentioning that the Cupertino tech company has not yet confirmed that there is indeed an Apple Smart Ring.
Also, these patents are in no way indications that the product will see production or will soon be available to the consumers. Tech juggernauts like Apple have a habit of filing patents, and most of these patents stay as patents and are not able to see the development of production. But, at the very least, the series of patents filed by the Cupertino company for the Apple Smart Ring is a strong indication of its ongoing interest with the device.
