Melania Trump once had a cordial relationship with Ivana Trump, the first wife of President Donald Trump. However, things apparently turned sour for the two Mrs. Trumps when Donald became the most powerful man in the United States.

According to Daily Express, Melania was apparently embarrassed by Ivana when the latter declared on national television that she is the real First Lady because she is the president's first wife. At that time, Ivana was in the media because she was promoting her book "Raising Trump," which tackled her life as a mother to the president's three oldest kids - Donald Jr., Ivanka and Eric.

Melania was apparently offended by Ivana's claim that she had to issue an official statement, per CNN. A spokesperson for Melania said that, unlike the president's ex-wife, the First Lady intends to use her title to help her husband in office and "not sell books" as Ivana did.

This statement was reportedly unexpected of Melania, who largely stayed in the background and avoided controversies in the media. Melania once also said that she's used to the negative reports and criticisms about her and her husband for many years but the comment made by Ivana apparently hit hard.

Ivana was divorced from President Trump in 1992 because he had an affair with Marla Maples, whom he married a few years later. Ivana used to say that she has no ill-feelings for Melania because she was not the one who destroyed her marriage to the former real estate mogul.

Early in the Trump presidency, Ivana also made comments about Melania that also became a sore spot for the First Lady. Apparently, the Donald's first wife said that Melania cannot talk well so she shouldn't be making speeches.

That comment apparently had Ivana apologizing profusely to the First Lady. Reports say that she sent a text message to tell Melania that she regards her as family and would never do anything to hurt a family.

Today, Ivana claims she still has no problems with Melania and she admires her for her keeping private and quiet. In truth, Ivana said that life in the White House is not for her, so she isn't fit to be a First Lady. She also said that she has a private line to the White House but she never uses this to avoid hurting Melania's feelings or causing jealousy.

In her book, Ivana said that she and her ex-husband speak at least once a month even today. In fact, it was Ivana who disclosed to the president that their son, Donald Jr., was divorcing his wife, Vanessa.
