Despite the lure of possibly coaching one of the richest clubs in Europe, the Paris Saint-Germain, Jurgen Klopp is staying with Liverpool until the end of his contract, which was recently extended to 2024. The German boss remains happy being the man in charge at Anfield, reports said.
In the past days, reports came out that indicated PSG sporting director Leonardo had reached out to the Liverpool head coach. The two chatted over the phone for an hour, in which Klopp was made aware of the plans by PSG executives to hire him.
According to The Daily Mail, Leonardo revealed how the hiring would play out, which possibly would be implemented by the end of the season. It was understood the PSG hierarchy intends to let go of current coach Thomas Tuchel and start afresh with Klopp on the lead at Parc des Princes.
PSG is gunning to win the UEFA Champions League, and the Paris club seems convinced the chance is higher for success with the Liverpool boss on board. Rumors are circulating too that in case Tuchel fails to win the same title, he could be out with or without Klopp.
Per the same report, the German boss was contacted by Leonardo around Christmastime for the job offer. It was made clear too that PSG had talks with Italian manager Max Allegri whose last coaching stint was with Juventus.
Presumably, Allegri was offered the same, but not confirmation from him was provided. In the same way, both Klopp and Leonardo have not commented on the matter.
However, Liverpool fans can be assured for now that the team manager is not going anywhere. Mirror said Klopp does not intend to walk away from his deal with Anfield as he is happy with his current role.
As the same report recalled, Klopp clearly stated his satisfaction with the English club that the thought of leaving has not entered his mind. This was after the signing of his extension with Liverpool was made public.
"This club is in such a good place, I couldn't contemplate leaving," the German was reported as saying.
"When I see the development of the club and the collaborative work that continues to take place, I feel my contribution can only grow ... I have seen the commitment from ownership through to every aspect and function of the club you can think of," Klopp said in explaining the reasons for his decision to extend.
PSG's interest on Klopp is understandable as he has been steering Liverpool to a string of victories. Under him, the club was crowned as the Champions League titlist and is likely to finish the campaign with a Premier League trophy.
