Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh, is reportedly feeling "much better" after his four-day hospital stay to treat a pre-existing condition. At 98, Prince Philip remains a vital part of the royal family even if he has officially retired from public service in 2017.

Prince Charles gave the public an update on how his father was doing after his health issues. According to Hello! the Prince of Wales apparently told some people waiting to see the royal family at Sandringham that the Duke of Edinburgh was "looked after very well" by his doctors and the hospital staff during his confinement.

Buckingham Palace issued a statement confirming that Prince Philip was being treated in a hospital in London a week before Christmas. Apparently, the hospital stay was a precautionary measure based on the advice of Prince Philip's doctors.

Meanwhile, even as Prince Philip is no longer actively doing his royal duties, he remains a crucial influence in the royal family. Queen Elizabeth once said during their 60th wedding anniversary that Prince Philip has been her strength all these years. She also said that she owes her husband "a debt greater than he would ever claim."

The Queen, however, did not visit her husband while he was at the hospital. Royal protocols prevented her from dropping by since this would entail a huge security entourage, which might disturb patients who need the peace and quiet and disrupt the work of the hospital personnel.

Prince William, on the other hand, recently recalled his grandfather's impact in his life, along with Queen Elizabeth. He said during his guest appearance in A Berry Royal Christmas special with Mary Berry that his grandparents are the "epitome of public service."

Prince William's cousin Princess Eugenie hailed Prince Philip as an incredible grandpa while talking about her grandparents for the Queen's 90 th birthday special on TV. The ultimate tribute of all, however, came from Prince Harry, who made sure that his son with the Duchess of Sussex Meghan Markle would carry on his grandfather's name as the royal baby is to be known as Master Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor.

Prince Philip is currently recuperating in Sandringham. This early, the politicians of Britain are reportedly planning his 100th birthday in June 2021. Sir David Amess of Essex apparently wants to launch a competition to name a new city for Prince Philip's centennial year. He said that he's working to fine tune the special royal event.
