The much-awaited arrival of the next generation gaming consoles is just a few months away. While both Microsoft and Sony have been trickling us with details about Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5, major details are still unknown. But, the latest leak may have given away more specifics about the power of PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X.

The latest leak directly came from the testing labs of AMD and compiled by Digital Foundry. It appears that someone at AMD stored the benchmark data on Github, which, although not public, still found its way leaking to the Internet. The more comprehensive view is courtesy Digital Foundry, which gives us the idea of what to expect when Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5 arrive.

Based on the leak, Microsoft's Xbox Series X will house a massive GPU possibly 12 Teraflops, which is a massive leap from the 1.3 Teraflops GPU of Xbox One and 6 Teraflops GPU of Xbox One X. While the leaked details about Microsoft's next-generation gaming console is less comprehensive, it reveals that its chip has 3584 shaders, which means it would require a staggering 56 Navi compute units. According to Digital Foundry, Microsoft may have 12 teraflops for its Arden chip and will have a memory bandwidth of 560 GB/s.

Both PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X features AMD Zen 2 processor as well as AMD Ryzen GPUs, but both differ in exact configurations. For instance, PlayStation 5 might feature a GPU with 36 Navi units at 2 GHz, which might be called the Lite version of the AMD Navi 10 GPU architecture for PCs. Along with the staggering GGDR6 RAM, and possibly 16 GB configuration, Sony's next-generation gaming console will have a significant upgrade compared to its predecessor, the PlayStation 4 Pro.

The leak also reveals the three various modes of the PlayStation 5 that the next-generation console will use to support backwards compatibility with the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 4 Pro. The upcoming console will allegedly alternate between Gen 0, Gen 1, and Gen 2 to play PS4, PS4 Pro-enhanced, and PS5 video titles, respectively. Given the massive upgrade in the power of both next-generation consoles, it appears that both will retail at a little bit higher price, according to Slashgear.

Microsoft earlier hinted that the Xbox Series X will be a premium or high-end console and that there may be more consoles coming. Sony said that it would try to adjust its pricing to accommodate the faster transition of players from PlayStation 4 or PS4 Pro to PlayStation 5.
