Meghan Markle and Prince Harry enjoyed their Christmas break in Canada, which gave birth to the rumors that the couple might choose to live in the said country. As the Sussexes prepared to return to the United Kingdom after their six-week hiatus, a royal expert was afraid for the couple's comeback.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex had been away from Britain since November last year. They decided to spend their holidays in private in Canada with their 7-month-old son, Archie Harrison. With their hiatus, former BBC royal correspondent Jennie Bond said in a video link on Lorraine that 2020 could be a challenging year for the couple.
"They've spent the last six weeks we believe in Canada, and I think this will be a tricky year," the 69-year-old journalist said, per Express. It remains to be seen if Prince Harry and Meghan Markle can continuously stand the public scrutiny and their public roles after being away and revealing their fragile state.
Prince Harry, too, openly talks about his mental problems. Now that they are set to return to their full-time work, Bond hopes they can manage to do it.
To recall, in the controversial ITV documentary, Meghan Markle opened up about her struggles dealing with the media scrutiny. This came after her husband issued a public statement to the press about their treatment to his wife.
Prince Harry felt like the scrutiny Meghan Markle experienced was similar to that of his mother, the late Princess Diana. Hence, he wanted to protect his wife from avoiding what happened to his mom. Their move to avoid the spotlight believed to have contributed to their decision to have a six-week break and spend Christmas in a different country.
Bond revealed that they both had a good Christmas in Canada, and baby Archie received a lot of gifts, like books, a baby pool, and building blocks, among others. They also enjoyed their downtime in the said country.
The locals often spotted them on the outdoors, going on hikes or jogs. One local also saw the couple on a dog walk. Meghan Markle even approached this woman and offered her to take a photo of her and her boyfriend when she saw them struggling.
At the time, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry reportedly looked happy while on a hike with their friends and dogs. So, comparing their lives in Canada and the U.K., they might decide to live in this country and leave their royal lives. Bookmakers Ladbrokes also predicted that they might move to Canada permanently over the United States with odds at 3/1.
