To kick off their new era, BTS dropped its Map Of The Soul: 7 “Interlude: Shadow” comeback trailer featuring the group’s main rapper Suga. Known for his personal and introspective lyrics, Suga’s “Interlude: Shadow” has some lines that are beautiful yet painful at the same time.

While listening or reading the first lines to Suga’s “Interlude: Shadow,” it is quite hard not to connect his lyrics to BTS “No More Dream.” Both songs started with words of what Suga wanted at each time.

In BTS “No More Dream,” Suga rapped, “I want a big house, big cars, and big rings. But in reality, I don’t have any big dreams.” And in Suga’s “Interlude: Shadow,” the 26-year-old started it rapping, “I wanna be a rap star, I wanna be the top, I wanna be a rockstar, I want it all mine, I wanna be rich I wanna be the king, I wanna go win. I wanna be a rap star, I wanna be the top, I wanna be a rockstar, I want it all mine, I wanna be rich, I wanna be the king, I wanna be me, I want a big thing, Oh boy let me see, I got a big dream.”

“No More Dream” was a part of their debut era while Suga's “Interlude: Shadow” is the first comeback trailer that BTS dropped in 2020. A lot of things have happened between these two songs. BTS is currently one of the most successful K-pop groups in history with RM, Jin, Suga, J-Hope, Jimin, V, and Jungkook breaking records after records.

But in 2013, the BTS boys were still aiming for the things that they have today — success, fame, and fortune. However, Suga’s “Interlude: Shadow” lyrics seemingly proved that success doesn’t necessarily mean happiness.

“I wondered every day how far I’d go, I came to my senses and I find myself here,” Suga rapped. “Shadow at my feet. Look down, it’s gotten even bigger. I run but the shadow follows. As dark as the light’s intense, I’m afraid, flying high is terrifying."

Suga may have finally achieved what he was achieving in “No More Dream” — big house, big cars, and big rings, but it appears that he also has to face the consequences. He discovered that success comes with a price, and he seemed to not be ready for it. "No one told me how lonely it is up here," he rapped.
