A recent report drove K-pop fans into a frenzy when it stated that Big Hit Entertainment is going to acquire Pledis Entertainment. These music labels don’t only have major groups in each company, such as BTS (Big Hit) and Seventeen (Pledis), but they have idols that are extremely close to each other despite being in different agencies.
In fact, it was previously joked that Jungkook is the 14th member of Seventeen. The BTS star is so close with the 97 liners in the Pledis Entertainment boy group, especially Mingyu, that he usually sits with them during Idol Star Athletics Championships (ISAC) competitions.
Now, BTS and Seventeen fans (ARMY and Carats respectively) are already imagining what Jungkook and Mingyu would be doing if Big Hit will officially acquire Pledis. One netizen shared a clip on Twitter of two men playing with fireworks. The men used the low explosive pyrotechnic devices as their weapons, which appeared to look like wizards’ wands, and used an umbrella as their shield. (Watch the clip here).
The K-pop fan captioned it: “Cheol (Seventeen’s leader): why is that only the 12 of us are here? RM (BTS’ leader): and only the 6 of us are here. Mingyu and Jungkook at the lobby: (referring to the firework clip).”
Jungkook is the only member of BTS who was born in 1997. Seventeen, on the other hand, has three members born in that year — Seokmin aka DK, Mingyu, and Minghao aka The8.
BTS’ golden maknae is known for his playful ways and usually annoys his hyungs to be silly with him. But, if Seventeen is going to be BTS’ labelmate, then, Jungkook will have DK, Mingyu, and The8 to play with.
According to an exclusive report from Ilgan Sports, Big Hit Entertainment will acquire Pledis Entertainment but the latter will be running independently. It also claimed that Pledis would be moving into Big Hit’s new building in Yongsan.
“We expect that the two companies will create an even more powerful synergy in the future by joining hands,” the insider said. “They will open up opportunities such as growing new artists and improving content and their global network based on the combined know-how of both agencies.”
Big Hit Entertainment quickly responded to the report. Although the label denied the acquisition, it didn’t shoot down the idea. “We are open to various opportunities, but we have no decision yet on what the reports are saying,” it stated.
