Along with Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle's alleged rift are fans that are also feuding with one another. Each duchess has its own supporters that are exchanging slurs and sometimes derogatory comments about their favorite royal. Now that the Duchess of Sussex steps down from her royal duties, things get wrost as they are already threatening each other and some are even getting rude for calling Kate and Meghan different names.
According to Daily Mail, the Duchess of Cambridge's fans celebrate the news that Prince Harry's wife is stepping down from being a senior royal. In fact, her supporters have been, allegedly, working on the so-called "Megxit" for quite a while now.
Meghan Markle's fans, on the other hand, are working so hard to praise their favorite royal's decision. While they're at it, they are also doubling their efforts to make Kate Middleton look like the villain.
However, the new generation of "online super-fans," known as "stans," which means obsessive fans, are far more malicious compared to the older royal fans. Their love for a particular duchess means they have to hate the other one. So if they love Kate Middleton, they have to hate Meghan Markle - and vice versa.
The feuding fanbases also have their own nicknames for the other. Meghan Markle's supporters, called the Sussex Squad, name Kate Middleton as "Duchess Do Little." Her rivals, dubbed as Cambridge Cult, alternatively, call the former actress as "Me-Again Sparkle" or "Duchess Dumb-A**."
This will result in a vicious keyboard war either on blogs or social media. From the exchange of harmless comments about the two, it can escalate quickly to cyberbullying, harassment, and even exchanging death threats.
When the reactions are too overwhelming, the fan sites owners end up deleting their accounts, canceling the websites, and some are even seeking mental health care. Unfortunately, an unnamed woman who has fan sites for both Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle revealed that these are all happening in the name of supporting their favorite royal.
Anyhow, despite the fans' backlash, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry gain some additional 600,000 followers on Instagram, four days after they announced their resignation. The royal couple welcomed the New Year by hitting the 10 million mark followers. After a week, they once again got new 100,000 followers.
Now, they have a total of 10.7 million followers, which continuously grows. Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are, now, inching closer to Kate Middleton and Prince William's 10.9 million followers on Instagram.
