Sony was clear that the new PlayStation 5 will be commercially available at the start of the 2020 holiday season, but a freshly leaked information provided some specifics that the Japanese company has so far withheld. Supposedly, the PS5 release date will be anytime in October 2020, and the selling price will start at $499.

The details were posted on numerous forum sites, and social media accounts, and unsurprisingly were shared by an unidentified source. Immediately, that should tell that the info is but a prediction that Sony will most likely not corroborate.

Still, it is interesting that the bold claims pointed to an exact touchdown moment for the PS5, Game Rant reported, as previously any bits of information on the next-gen console only danced around on estimated arrival time, which is between November and December this year.

It is notable as well that the leaked info opted for an earlier commercial debut, and it makes sense as Sony could be planning to preempt its expected rival. Microsoft has already revealed that the Xbox Series X will drop at around the same time as that of the PS5 but possibly not earlier than November.

However, the PS5 pricing claim is nothing new since the $499 starting price has been making the rounds for a number of weeks not. The leaker, though, tried to stir up some form of interest by insisting Sony's sequel to the PS4 will be cheaper than the upcoming Xbox refresh.

Per the informant, the PS5 will provide a saving of about $100 to would-be buyers, which suggested that Microsoft's upgraded gaming machine will have an asking price of $600 for the base model.

While both consoles will be packed with premium components, the significant price difference seems a little strange considering the launch titles purportedly attached to both hardware. Comic Book said the Series X is touted to debut with a great disadvantage on this respect over the PS5.

"The PS5 will not just have more exclusives than Xbox Series X at launch, but many more," said the report, pointing to the recent information shared by industry insider Jason Schreier. If he is to be believed, Schreier claimed there will be more interesting game titles that developers will release only for the Sony game console.

It is odd, though, that Schreier did not support his claim with titles that gamers can only play on the PS5. And such a scenario has long been expected, as Microsoft has earlier indicated that Xbox-only games will not arrive until 2021.

BGR said the PS5 is tipped to be introduced this coming February through Sony's own PlayStation Meeting, again a confirmation that the company will be a no show at the E3 2020.
