In the celebration of the 75th anniversary of the liberation of the Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp, Kate Middleton took some snaps of the two Holocaust survivors. Kensington Palace shared some behind-the-scenes images of the Duchess of Cambridge's new project, where she could be seen having fun with a couple of elderly and their families,
The two Holocaust survivors, Steven Frank and Yvonne Bernstein, were the subject of the pictures of Prince William's wife, per Express. It was part of the project by the Royal Photographic Society (RPS), of which the future queen consort is the patron of. The snaps would be part of the collection of 75 pictures that would be shared in the 75 years of the liberation of the Auschwitz-Birkenau camp.
Kensington Palace lets fans see Kate Middleton's works behind the scenes. Despite the emotion that can be felt through the pictures, the mother-of-three can be seen relaxed and even smiling and laughing while working alongside the two Holocaust survivors.
In the first snap, Kate Middleton is seen laughing with Yvonne while in front of a laptop. "Today is #HolocaustMemorialDay, which takes place each year on the anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau, and honors survivors of the Holocaust, Nazi Persecution, and subsequent genocides in Cambodia, Rwanda, Bosnia and Darfur," the lengthy caption read.
In the second snap, she can be seen talking to Steven and his family, while they seem to be preparing to take the pictures. In the last photo, she is once again giggling with Yvonne while seating and exchanging some words.
In another post, Kate Middleton revealed that she wanted to make the photographs deeply personal to Yvonne and Stephen. She wanted it to depict the celebration of family and the life they built when they arrived in Britain in the 1940s.
In the snaps, they held some items that had personal significance for them. She then said that she felt honored to be tasked to do the project, hoping Yvonne and Steven's memories would be kept alive as they "pass the baton to the next generation."
Kate Middleton went on to describe Yvonne and Steven as "two of the most life-affirming people" she ever met despite the trauma that they had been through. Although they looked back on their bad experiences with sadness, they felt thankful that they were two of the lucky few who made it through the horrible event. Prince William's wife then closed her message, saying that their stories would stay with her forever.
