Shameless season 11 is officially happening on Showtime and this would be the final installment of the series. Shameless is one of the longest-running series in the network, spending almost a decade on the small screen following the Gallagher family. The series was renewed during the Winter TCA Press Tour, with the network's head Greg Levine announcing season 11 would be the series' final run.

The series used to be a midseason show until season 7, but Showtime decided to move it to the fall schedule. Currently, the official release date of Shameless season 11 wasn't yet announced. Fans, however, speculated it would probably be released in November 2020 with 12 episodes. The series will then run week after week and will likely conclude in January 2021.

The core cast members are coming back in Shameless season 11 to reprise their role for the last time. That means we'll be seeing William H. Macy as Frank, Jeremy Allen White as Lip, Ethan Cutkosky as Carl, Shanola Hampton as V, Steve Howey as Kev, Emma Kenney as Debbie, Cameron Monaghan as Ian, Noel Fisher as Mickey, Christian Isaiah as Liam, and Kate Miner as Tami.

There were also speculations Emmy Rossum's Fiona is coming back in the final installment. However, nothing is confirmed at the moment, especially since the actress is committed to other things. But in an interview with TVLine, showrunner John Wells said he would love to have the character back in the series' last run, but it still depends on Rossum's schedule.

Shameless season 11 will continue to follow the Gallaghers' lives. In season 10 finale, Ian and Mickey held their wedding but one person isn't happy about it; Mickey's father, Terry. He tried to stop the wedding by burning the venue, but he failed. He also interrupted their honeymoon with a drive-by shooting but also failed. So, Terry will play a huge role in the lives of the two in the final season.

As for Lip, he previously struggled with alcoholism and fell off the wagon during the wedding after a huge fight with Tami. She threatened him she's moving to Milwaukee with their son, Fred. Good thing, the two were able to patch things up and Tami decided to stick around. She then helped Lip fix up their new home in Chicago.

While Shameless season 11 would be the final one for the Gallaghers, Wells said he would write it forever. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, the showrunner said he hasn't changed his opinion about Shameless and loves to write it forever. However, he revealed that Showtime recognized it's time to end the series and they respect that decision.
