A manuscript written by US President Donald Trump's former national security adviser revealed that the former may have done favors for China that led to the completion of phase one of the trade deal. He also added that the same courtesy was extended to Turkey. It was also discussed how Trump may have given the impression that he had significant influence in the country's justice department investigations.
John Bolton was the former national security adviser of Trump. In fulfillment of his upcoming book, he allegedly told Attorney General William Barr that Trump may have given out favors to Turkey and China showing them that he influences the US's justice system. The attorney general then highlighted the business dealings that Trump had with the countries' president as the reference of Bolton in his statements, reported The Daily Beast.
A report by The New York Times hinted that Bolton would write about how he and Barr discussed the trade deals engaged by the US President with China regarding the telecommunications firm ZTE.
The discussion was said to have revolved around Trump's decision to lift sanctions imposed to ZTE when the firm was accused of doing business with countries that had adverse interests with the US. The countries were revealed to be Iran and North Korea, among others.
The report claimed that Bolton's book would also highlight on Trump's sentiments about Erdogan in 2018, a person who was subject to the justice department's probe about Halkbank. The latter was said to be one of Turkey's largest state-owned banks that was accused of helping Iran avoid US sanctions over the years.
The decision was decided against the bank where it was charged with money laundering, fraud, and other sanctions such as having direct participation in a multibillion-dollar scheme in favor of Iran.
However, despite the allegations, Bolton, the US justice department, Bolton's publisher, and the book's literary agency denied that they revealed any information about the upcoming book to The New York Times. Furthermore, it was also revealed that the manuscript referred to by the Times was put on the White House review about a month ago.
The alleged statements of Bolton in the book was said to highlight Trump's plan to focus on US military aid to the favored presidents such as Ukraine's investigations into the running president's political rivals.
According to a press release published in Big News Network, the said manuscript contained information about how Trump told Bolton to freeze about 391 million USD in security aid to Ukraine until the latter's officials would help in the investigations.
