Queen Elizabeth II granted Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's wish to step back from their royal duties, but with consequences. Her Majesty came up with a deal that would work on both parties before the Sussexes started living the life they wanted. However, one part of this deal reportedly upset the Duke of Sussex as he would be stripped of his military titles that might be given to his brother, Prince William.

In one of his last public appearances before leaving Britain to return to his family, Meghan Markle and baby Archie, in Canada. Prince Harry seemed to hint his disappointment over the crafted deal of their royal exit. Speaking at Sentebale's fundraising dinner in West London, he said that they felt like they were left with no choice.

"The decision that I have made for my wife and I to step back is not one I made lightly. It was so many months of talks after so many years of challenges," he said. "And I know I haven't always gotten it right, but as far as this goes, there really was no other option."

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle would stop using their HRH titles at the beginning of the spring. They would also stop representing Queen Elizabeth and receiving public funding. However, what would upset the Duke the most was the removal of his military titles.

In fact, he said that they hoped to continue serving the Queen, the Commonwealth, and his military associations, but those were not allowed to happen. Hence, royal commentator Richard Fitzwilliams told Express that the loss of his military titles, especially his being Captain-General of the Royal Marines, would "deeply upset" Prince Harry.

Prince Harry could no longer wear the military uniform, and that was something that he would feel deeply. Now that his title would be stripped off, Fitzwilliams believed that it would be likely given to Prince William, who is the Colonel of the Irish Guards.

In fact, Queen Elizabeth recently appointed the Duke of Cambridge as the Lord High Commander to the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland, per USA Today. A tweet from the Kensington Royal confirmed the new post of Kate Middleton's husband.

Prince William will remain to be the Duke of Cambridge and serve his new position, which will last for a year. In the palace website, it said that although the person in the role had to be of Scottish descent, members of the royal family also served the post. The Lord High Commission would help to "maintain the relationship between the church and state.
