Kate Middleton had the privilege of honoring Holocaust survivors last Monday, Jan. 27, as the world remembered the 75th year since the liberation of the Jews in Auschwitz, Poland. Together with Prince William, the Duchess of Cambridge said that she feels humbled to personally meet and hear the stories of these brave survivors.
The Cambridge royals were at the Westminster to witness the ceremony dedicated to the victims of the Nazi persecution. Duchess Kate also stood on stage to take part in the lighting ceremony to represent the six million Jews that were killed by the German soldiers during the Second World War.
After the service, Prince William and Kate were led to a special meeting with the Holocaust survivors. Speaking to one of the elders, Kate said that so many of them gave a moving and emotional personal accounts.
The Duchess of Cambridge expressed her gratitude for those who got up on stage to narrate their experiences at the hands of the Nazis. She acknowledged that it was hard to do, which is why she feels quite humbled to be in their presence.
Kate also said that she's very interested in the intergenerational trauma that families of Holocaust victims experience. She relayed that they spoke about this historical event to their son, Prince George, at a level that he would understand, which made her wonder if the sufferings of the Holocaust victims resonated with the younger members of their family. The duchess is aware that there are many families, even to this day, who are "torn apart by the trauma" of the Holocaust.
Meanwhile, fans of the Cambridge royals can't help but notice that Kate seems bothered and troubled in her last few public appearances. There are speculations that the duchess is still feeling the loss of her best friend and brother-in-law, Prince Harry since he left for Canada to start a new and private life with Meghan Markle.
According to body language expert Judi James, Kate's recent expressions suggest she is feeling the pressure as she and Prince William will be getting more responsibilities. However, James also said that Kate seems to be feeling the loss of Prince Harry.
Before Meghan came along, Prince William and Kate worked side by side with Prince Harry. She grew incredibly close to her husband's brother.
However, in early January Prince Harry and Meghan decided to step back from their royal life and stay in Vancouver, Canada indefinitely. Queen Elizabeth gave her consent after weeks of talks with Prince Harry, Prince Charles, and Prince William.
