The next Android software from Google would release this year. The search engine giant has not yet said anything much about the upcoming OS build. However, there are lots of rumors and leaks circulating online.

Android 11's Official Name

Unfortunately, the official name of the next Google operating system is Android 11. sadly, for those expecting to hear any name related to sweets or dessert, that naming was retired in Aug. last year. Android 10 was have been named Android Q, but this year, it would be called Android 11.

Android 11 Features

Emoji 13.0 is coming to Android 11, as earlier announced by Google. It comes with 62 new characters, as well as 55 sender variants and skin tones. The search engine giant said that Emoji 13.0 would be released on Android 11 'later this year.' So far, this is the first official confirmation Google shared about Android 11.

Other possible features that might be introduced in Android 11, according to rumors, include Nearby Sharing, which is Android's take on Apple's AirDrop. Samsung earlier announced its Quick Share, which might officially unveil at the upcoming Unpacked event. Android 11 would also remove the 4 GB video recording limit on Android smartphones.

Moreover, Android 11 might introduce changes in Airplane Mode. A recent commit to the source code of AOSP revealed that Android 11 would not switch off Bluetooth when the user switches to airplane mode. In other words, users who prefer listening to music could actively do so even if the phone is set on airplane mode.

But, it is only applicable if the user is listening to music using a short-range Bluetooth device. Another possible Android 11 feature is the Scoped Storage, which was introduced in Android 10 but wasn't fully implemented. Scoped Storage would limit the access of the apps on the device for better battery and enhanced security.

Android 11 Release Date

Based on its release pattern, Google releases the public version of its Android operating system in the last few months of the year. The Android 10 was released on Sept. 3, 2019, so, Android 11 might arrive at around this time this year.

But, before officially releasing the Android OS, the search engine giant would send developers the beta version to be tested. Last year, Android 10 beta OS arrived on Mar., so this year, we could expect the same release schedule. The next major OS release would be at the Google I/O, where the new operating system will also officially unveil.
