Prince William and Kate Middleton attended to a series of royal engagements in the south of Wales on Tuesday, Feb. 4 but they popped in at a local ice cream parlor before heading to a town meeting. The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge had an instant ice cream date where they also got to meet Joe's Ice Cream owners, Dominic and Adrian Hughes.

The second in line to the throne told the Hughes that he imagines their shop is packed with people for the summer. He also asked them if their ice cream had magic ingredients after enjoying a vanilla ice cream sprinkled with chocolate bits on a cone.

Kate, on the other hand, had her ice cream in a cup, which was sprinkled with flakes. She wondered if Joe's comes up with new flavors regularly. According to the Evening Standard, the shop has been in existence since 1898, and their signature flavor is Vanilla Gelato, which Prince William had.

After having their ice creams, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge mingled with the locals. Prince William was asked if his children -- Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis -- liked ice cream as well. The future King of England replied in the affirmative, adding that the young Cambridges like some flavors more than others.

One royal fan told Prince William that her favorite of his kids is Princess Charlotte. The proud father replied that his daughter is just as lovely as his wife, according to People. Meanwhile, Kate engaged many parents who were there with the kids as part of her new initiative, the "5 Big Questions on the Under Fives" survey.

According to Insider, Prince William and Kate were heavy with the PDA (public display of affection) as they visited the south of Wales. Apart from their ice cream date, which was an unusual break for the royal pair, Kate was seen placing her hand on her husband's arm more than once.

As a matter of protocol, the royals don't usually engage in PDA during formal royal events. Royal observers, however, said that Prince William and Kate appeared completely relaxed next to each other. They were also smiling at each other while reminiscing about their time in Wales as a newly-married couple.

Friends of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge said that they have an old-fashioned marriage. Yet Prince William and Kate look out for each other as they perform different roles in the royal family.
