It was announced that the Trump administration and Huawei are bound to meet later this month to discuss further limitations on exports to China. It was found that Huawei still wants to acquire state-of-the-art US technology to further its developments.

According to Reuters, the said meeting would be held on February 28, 2020. It would be attended by policymakers from China and the US to discuss the implications of a recently withdrawn rule by the US Commerce Department where a reduction of foreign shipments to Huawei Technologies would take effect.

The said officials expected at the meeting are high-level personnel from the US Commerce, Defense, State, and Energy departments. They are expected to resolve differences on how to approach the blacklisted Huawei company and to alleviate the tensions about China's technological dominance in the global economy.

It was revealed that some members of the Trump administration want to continue having close ties with China and continue acquiring the services of Huawei since it is the largest telecoms equipment, maker. The said tensions grew when Trump allegedly claimed that the company poses a threat to national security.

Last May, the Commerce Department put Huawei on its trade blacklist due to these allegations. The accusation led the US government to prohibit the sales of American-made products to Huawei and some other items made overseas where US technology was used in developing them.

At present, key foreign supply chains are not covered by US mandates that further escalated the tensions between China as the US wanted to block more shipments to Huawei. A recently drafted rule by the Commerce department was even opposed by several US officials who claimed that the blockade harmed US interest. It was also revealed that even the US Treasury Department also went against the measure.

Furthermore, the Commerce department was only found to eradicate the inter-agency review process. Thus, the meeting was said to resolve the issues regarding the matter. Furthermore, the said meeting was also timed significantly after the US and China concluded phase one of the trade deal.

In other news, IT Wire reported that even if Huawei Technology only derives less than one percent of its revenue from its trade deals with the US, Washington's ban would have a wider impact on its 5g networks.
