Tesla CEO Elon Musk recently tweeted that SpaceX is having a Starship career day. Available positions include staff for four production shifts for its 24/7 operations. He also said the company needs supervisors, engineers, and support personnel.
Musk's Perspective on Hiring
Elon Musk is one of the most successful tech leaders in the industry. He is a visionary that leads Tesla and Space X to develop products and innovations that we only dreamed of before. But, unlike other CEOs, Musk has a different perspective on hiring people.
On his tweet, the CEO said that the company needs people with 'A super hardcore work ethic, a talent for building things, common sense, and trustworthiness. He added that all the rest could be instilled to employees trough training. The CEO also tweeted about hiring at Tesla the next day.
Musk used the platform to encourage applicants to join the US electric vehicle company's AI team. He said that the AI team reports to him directly, and he meets, texts, emails, the team almost every day. Surprisingly, Musk said that Tesla's AI team does not require applicants with a Ph.D. degree, saying he does not care even if the applicant graduated high school.
Although Musk does not require degree-holders, applicants must pass the company's hardcore coding test. He added that applicants must have a deep understanding of artificial intelligence, claiming educational background is 'irrelevant.' Even before, the CEO was straightforward about his position on the relevance of degrees.
Other Details
In 2014, Musk said in an interview with Auto Bild that there is no need to have a college degree or even a high school degree at all. He added, "If somebody graduated from a great university, that might be an indication that they will be capable of great things, but it's not necessarily the case. If you look at, say, people like Bill Gates or Larry Ellison, Steve Jobs, these guys didn't graduate from college, but if you had a chance to hire them, of course, that would be a good idea."
According to Musk, the Tesla AI recruits would be assigned in Austin, Texas, or San Francisco Bay area in California. They could also be assigned in any Tesla Gigafactory, he tweeted. Tesla Gigafactories produce the electric motors and battery packs of the company's electric vehicle.
At present, Tesla has Gigafactories in New York, Nevada, and Shanghai in China. The company is currently developing another Gigafactory in Germany and aims to have it fully operational by 2021.
