Microsoft is implementing bits of reorganization that will see the company's Windows division and hardware business being handled by one executive soon, a move that is seen to streamline and further enhance the overall PC experience. Beginning on February 25, Panos Panay will take on a new role as a head of Windows and Devices.

As point man for the merged divisions, Panay, who is currently Microsoft's Chief Product Officer, will lead the next phase of developments lined up for the Windows operating system and the Surface line of devices. Specifically, the exec will map and make things happen for the Windows Client.

ZDNet called the planned change as "the biggest and boldest move," by Microsoft at the start of 2020. Essentially, Panay's promotion serves as the affirmation of his leading role in ensuring that Windows 10 innovations will continue to highlight the advantage of using Windows on Surface devices.

The report pointed to an internal email by Panay, in which he confirmed his new task of enhancing the user experience of Windows 10 that will apply not only for Surface devices but also for OEMs.

"We believe this will make the Windows Client experience better for the entire PC ecosystem. Designing hardware and software together will enable us to do a better job on our long term Windows bets, " the Microsoft exec was reported as saying.

To be clear, Windows and the Surface line will still function as separate entities but with the guidance of Panay. Heads of the two divisions will be reporting to him, which is an approach that the Microsoft official said was designed to "streamline our decision-making processes, be clear on our priorities, and deliver the best end-user experiences."

While there were no specifics promised in the latest adjustment, one key improvement that can be expected is the addressing of the problem-plagued Windows 10 update process. It seemed obvious that the appointment of Panay to a strategic role is intended "to align both the hardware and software more closely for better results."

A solid example of these promised results is the better delivery of the Windows 10 updates, which WCCFTech said was already witnessed with the May 2019 and November 2019 feature upgrades. The last two major installments of OS updates saw fewer issues breaking PC systems, which deviated from the earlier problematic procedures that affected millions of users.

Panay taking charge of Windows and Devices should mean that Microsoft is envisioning a tighter interaction of the company's software and hardware offerings. And for Windows 10, it will lead to improved stability, added the report.
