Prince William and Kate Middleton will be making a historic visit to Ireland next month after the demand for Irish unity. The victory of Sinn Fein, an Irish republican political party, at the Irish elections led to the announcement of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s sudden trip in March.
The decision of Prince William and Kate Middleton heading to Ireland was made just 24 hours after Sinn Fein's historic success. "The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge will undertake an official visit to Ireland between Tuesday 3rd March and Thursday 5th March, at the request of the Foreign and Commonwealth Office,” the royal couple’s official Twitter account shared.
Although Prince William and Kate Middleton’s visit to Ireland is already confirmed, the upcoming trip, which reportedly will include stops in Dublin and Cork, is still in its early stages so there are no updates as to what’s going to take place during the royal couple’s historic tour. But a recent report revealed that officials from the Department of Foreign Affairs are already finalizing the arrangements.
Meanwhile, Queen Elizabeth visited the Republic of Ireland back in 2011, which made her the first reigning British monarch to make a trip to the island. Her Majesty and Prince Philip toured Cork’s English Market during their visit. After that, the rest of the Royal Family members then started traveling to Ireland as well.
Prince Charles and Camilla Parker Bowles, the Duchess of Cornwall, have visited Ireland since 2015. They have been to the island five times. Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s first official trip in 2019 was in Ireland.
Although Prince William and Kate Middleton have been to Northern Ireland twice, their trip to the Republic of Ireland next month will be their first. The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are expected to take part in a couple of engagement during their two-day visit.
Prince William and Kate Middleton are certainly two of the most popular and well-loved members of the royal family. According to royal commentator Richard Fitzwilliams, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are doing their duties so well that they continue to bring honor to the royal family.
“William and Kate have, thankfully, yet to put a foot wrong and this is likely to be a delightful and widely watched Yuletide experience from which others might learn,” he said.
