There is little doubt that Taika Waititi is already a part of the Star Wars Universe. In addition to providing the voice of the droid IG-11 in The Mandalorian, the filmmaker also directed the jaw-dropping season finale of the new Disney+ series. But what are the chances that Waititi will eventually helm a new Star Wars film that would serve as the continuation of the franchise? The Thor: Ragnarok director has finally addressed the possibility that he will work on a new Star Wars movie in the future.

It's no secret that Taika Waititi is one of the most promising filmmakers in Hollywood right now. The New Zealand-based director recently took home the Best Adapted Screenplay award at the 92nd Academy Awards for his work on Jojo Rabbit. In addition to that, Waititi is set to return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe with the fourth Thor film starring Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, and Tessa Thompson. However, it seems like most people are just concerned about a completely different project for Waititi. So what are the chances that he will be the next director to direct a Star Wars movie?

Taika Waititi recently spoke to Variety following his Oscar win and he was immediately asked if he has been approached by Disney about working on a Star Wars film. Interestingly, it sounded like the Thor: Ragnarok director isn't particularly interested in the high-profile project.

"I think people see me hanging out with people, especially with Star Wars, and think I'm having some big discussions about it," Waititi said. "I would f-ing love to... if it was right. I would want to do any kind of movie if it made sense, and if it felt not like career suicide."

Unfortunately, it doesn't sound like Taika Waititi is eager to take on a Star Wars film just yet. However, fans are hoping that the filmmaker will be given enough creative license to do what he wants with a possible movie. After all, Waititi has already proven himself when he directed the season finale of The Mandalorian. In the meantime, we'll be waiting for some good news from Disney.

In addition to Thor: Love and Thunder, Taika Waititi is also expected to helm a live-action remake of the classic cyberpunk animated film Akira. However, the project has been pushed back indefinitely in favor of Waititi's current projects. Keep watching this page for more updates on this story.
