At an early age, Prince George and Princess Charlotte are reportedly in training to lead the Firm. However, Prince William and Kate Middleton's only daughter is said to face difficult challenges for being the fourth in line to the throne, next to her older brother.
Prince George is the third in line to the throne next to his father, Prince William. Hence, he is the heir, and his sister, Princess Charlotte, is the spare, which is said to be a role that is hard to fulfill.
Princess Charlotte is reportedly in this position due to the Succession to the Crown Act (2013), giving the sons the preference in the line of succession. Hence, she has to navigate a role that has been difficult for the "spares" to do in royal history.
Prince Harry has been struggling to fulfill this role, tagging him as a rebel. Prince Charles also has his younger brother, Prince Andrew, as his spare as well as Queen Elizabeth II and her sister, Princess Margaret.
According to Express, these so-called spares find it hard to fulfill the role that they were born to do. Hence, they often face royal scandals. Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's controversial royal exit may also give Princess Charlotte an option if she doesn't want to follow the traditional royal life when she gets older.
The Megxit seems to create a way for the young princess to leave her role if she wants to. Royal expert Katie Nicholl said on The Spectator's podcast The Edition that the Sussexes might have created a "blueprint" for the younger royals.
"I think if this all comes off well, this could be very useful blueprint - not for George because he is going to be King, but for Charlotte and Louis, for the royals who are not in direct succession to the Crown, to have a life within the Royal Family," she explained. "You used the word 'spare,' and I think that's interesting because if you look historically, the role of the spare has always been a tricky one."
Anyhow, although Prince George is only six years old and Princess Charlotte is four, they are already starting learning how to act like royals and what their lives will be when they get older. Prince William and Kate Middleton began speaking to their two kids about their future roles in the monarchy.
A source told Closer Weekly that the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have been preparing Prince George and Princess Charlotte for their lives as working royals. However, they are doing it in a child-like way so that they can easily understand everything they have to do without feeling overwhelmed.
