Meghan Markle and Prince Harry may be hinting at the possibility of not returning to the U.K. Although the two earlier said they would be dividing their time between their home country and North America, their Buckingham Office is reportedly closing after axing all of their 15 staff members.
According to Express, the Sussexes will be closing their Buckingham Palace office as they are now preparing for their lives in Canada. The two reportedly told their staff members about it after their royal exit was confirmed in January, and Queen Elizabeth II, Prince Charles, and Prince William were all aware of it.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are believed to have looked for new roles for their staff members, but not everyone would be given a new job. Along with that is the closure of their office at Buckingham Palace.
"Given their decision to step back, an office at Buckingham Palace is no longer needed," a royal source told the Daily Mail. Details about their staff members are yet to be finalized. However, efforts are now being made to redeploy them within the royal household. Sadly, there will be some "redundancies."
While Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's bombshell announcement about their decision to step down as senior members of the royal family, resulting in the dropping of their HRH titles, shocked everyone, their royal staff was said to be not surprised. As they have a very loyal team, they all respect their decision to have private lives and be financially independent.
Some of the fired staffers are their communication chief Sara Latham and newly appointed private secretary Fiona Mcilwham, Page Six noted. Prince Harry's program coordinator, Clara Loughran, who also handed Meghan Markle's bouquet on her wedding day, was also axed. His assistant communications secretary Marnie Gaffney was also let go.
Julie Burley, who worked in the press office and was an essential part of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's Heads Together mental health campaign, also lost her job. Although she played a crucial role in the royal couple's team, she, too, was let go.
The insider added that all of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's staff members were close and supported each other. Despite what happened, they all helped them to establish their future and work on a series of final engagements. Harry is also set to return to the U.K. to join Prince William in another royal duty.
