Reading users complaining about issues after installing the latest Windows update is not new. However, there are times when the problems are too troublesome than what they usually appear. Unfortunately, the patch released by Microsoft last Tuesday is such a kind of update.

Several online forum sites contain complaints from some users reportedly caused by the latest Windows 10 cumulative update for versions 1903 and 1909. It appears that the latest patch comes with some bugs. For several months, Microsoft was able to avoid significant issues, but this year seems to be not so great for the company.

Users noticed that after installing Windows 10 KB4532693, update the Desktop and Start menu return to their default state. This could be due to a temporary user profile or incorrect loading. In other words, all icons or shortcuts on the Start menu and Desktop are gone following the installation of the most recent patch. Some of these complaints can be found at the Microsoft Forums.

One user reported that the issue he is experiencing is also on several devices running on various versions of the operating system. This ranges from version 1809 through version 1909 but, all of these devices are running on AMD chips. The user also noted that installing KB4524244 caused machine freezing, and following power recycling, an uefi error surfaced.

The issue could be associated with AMD chips considering that several other users also reported experiencing the same with their machines running on AMD chips. In one instance, a user claimed that when the Secure Boot was disabled, the Microsoft update successfully installed. Another report from Borncity revealed that some of these issues with Windows 10 appeared to be associated with Avira antivirus.

Apart from these claims, another user reported that the latest Windows 10 1909 update resets everything to default and not just the Start Menu and Desktop icons. This includes wallpapers and several others.

Microsoft has yet to acknowledge these issues complained by the users. It also means that at this point, the Redmond-based tech giant has no official fixes for the issues yet. But, for users who would like to return to normal, uninstalling the latest updates should fix the issues.

To uninstall the latest Microsoft update, open Settings and click on Update and Security. Look for the Windows Update page and click on View Update History. Uninstall Updates and choose update (KB4532693 / KB4524244) or the update that you want to uninstall. Then click the Uninstall button and click Yes. After these steps Restart your device, and you should see the Desktop icons and Start Menu icons are back.
