The Cupertino tech titan Apple is known for making the fastest mobile processors in the industry. Rumors of the arrival of the next-generation mobile processor from Apple have been rife since last year. But, what can consumers expect from Apple's A14 Bionic chip?

A14 With Neumorphism

A new report from Cult of Mac toys with the idea that the A14 chip might introduce the neumorphism look. Neumorphism is an emerging trend that replicates real-world depth cues but without the exaggerated photorealistic details and textures. This kind of design is very easy on the eyes while maintaining a rich visual that conveys a plethora of information because it uses real-world cues.

The report cites designer Michael Malewicz's observation about the iOS 13 markup tools, which could indicate the start of neumorphism within the Cupertino company. At this point, we still don't know if Apple would introduce neumorphism on the A14, but it would be a welcome change since it would make the iPhone and iPad much easier for everyone to use.

5nm-based A14 Chip

TSMC is the company responsible for manufacturing Apple's chips. This year, the firm is planning to release its 5nm process chips, which is expected to be where the A14 chip would be based. Apple is likely to be the first massive-scale consumer chip to utilize it.

The 5nm node is a full node next to 7nm. It utilizes extreme ultra-violet lithography all through the entire process. According to TSMC, the 5nm mode offers 80 percent more logic density and can still run even at 15 percent power or 30 percent lower power with the same level of performance as the 7nm. Based on earlier reports, the 5nm-based A14 chip could substantially offer more power-efficient and powerful chip.

Other Details

Digitimes, a constant source of information about Apple and its plans, recently reported that supply chain sources disclosed an increase in A14 Bionic chip orders of around 50 to 60 percent higher than its predecessor. It could suggest that the Cupertino company is gearing to ship a substantially larger number of flagship smartphones this year.

The massive increase in terms of sales projections could be due to the demand for 1Phone 12 5G. Consumers in other regions are reportedly holding off on purchasing the iPhone 11 because of its lack of 5G support. Some claim that these consumers are waiting for the iPhone model that Apple would equip with 5G support.

At this point, nothing is officially confirmed about the A14 Bionic chip. However, several reports already claimed that the next-generation mobile chip would be in the upcoming iPhone 12 series, as well as in the next-generation iPad Pro series.
