There is little doubt that people were concerned when Marvel Studios didn't immediately announce a sequel to Captain Marvel. After all, there were speculations that the studio had changed its mind about pushing through with more movies featuring Brie Larson after the 2018 film experienced some backlash. However, it looks like things haven't changed with the plans for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It has been revealed that Captain Marvel 2 has been greenlit and Larson could be directing the highly anticipated movie.

Back in 2014, it was confirmed that Captain Marvel would be the first female-led Marvel Cinematic Universe flick that would focus on Carol Danvers. Brie Larson was later announced to take on the role during the 2016 San Diego Comic-Con. At first, it seemed like things were going accordingly and fans were even excited when Captain Marvel's arrival was teased in the post-credits scene for Avengers: Infinity War. Unfortunately, this changed when the first trailer for the film was released.

It didn't take long before people started complaining about Brie Larson being cast as Carol Danvers. Nevertheless, the movie still turned out to be a major success for Marvel Studios. Not surprisingly, this has led to the studio ultimately planning Captain Marvel 2. Interestingly, the sequel could come a little sooner than expected.

The good news comes from GeeksWorldWide, which confirmed that Marvel Studios has filed for an LLC called 'Warbird Productions II' earlier in February. Not surprisingly, this could be an interesting reference to Carol Danvers, who was a former US Air Force fighter pilot. Needless to say, this could be the confirmation everyone has been waiting for about Captain Marvel 2.

Amazingly, there's more good news about Captain Marvel 2. A report from Showbiz Cheat Sheet reveals that Marvel Studios is considering Brie Larson to direct the upcoming sequel, which is expected to premiere by 2022. Although there is a possibility that Larson will only co-direct the movie with another filmmaker, it's welcome news from fans who are aware of her talent. Larson had previously directed the independent comedy drama Unicorn Store, which also starred her Avengers: Endgame castmate Samuel L. Jackson.

For now, Captain Marvel 2 has not yet been officially announced by Marvel Studios. Likewise, it has not yet been confirmed whether Brie Larson will be directing the Marvel Cinematic Universe flick. Nevertheless, fans are already hopeful about the sequel. We will keep you updated on more details about this story.
