CBS hasn't officially renewed or canceled NCIS season 18, but many believe the series will bring more episodes in the future. Although there is no official announcement as of the moment, loyal viewers are certain that the Mark Harmon-led series is coming back, especially since it continues delivering great live numbers for the network, as well as DVR viewers.
According to CarterMatt, the renewal announcement of NCIS season 18 may happen a little bit sooner rather than later. Over the past years, the series was being officially renewed around the second week of April. It usually goes with a new deal signed from Harmon, who also serves as an executive producer of NCIS: New Orleans. But now, it looks like the announcement might be revealed sooner than April.
Reportedly, the early renewal of NCIS season 18 may be due to early renewals of other shows in general. For instance, The CW has already renewed its entire lineup and NBC also renewed The Blacklist season 8. Thus, CBS may likely follow this trend, especially since the NCIS franchise is one of the most popular shows in the network.
The renewal announcement of NCIS season 18 may come out in March, as per CarterMatt. The current season is still airing on CBS and will conclude in May. Since it's not yet officially renewed, there were no confirmed details about the potential new season. But if ever, it may likely arrive around September 2020, which is the regular autumn slot.
As for who's returning in NCIS season 18, Harmon is likely coming back to reprise his role as Leroy Jethro Gibbs. Other returning cast members may include Maria Bello as Dr. Jack Sloane, Sean Murray as Timothy McGee, Diona Reasonover as Kasie Hines, Rocky Carroll as Leon Vance, Wilmer Valderrama as Nick Torres, Emily Wickersham as Ellie Bishop, Brian Dietzen as Dr. Jimmy Palmer.
Meanwhile, when asked about the eventual ending of the series, Harmon revealed to People that NCIS isn't showing any signs of slowing down just yet. It looks like that as long as the ratings impress the network, then NCIS will continue. With his remarks, it's apparent that the series won't be ending anytime soon and is coming back for more in the future.
NCIS season 17 airs every Tuesday on CBS. However, there is no new episode airing this week and the week after. Viewers may have to wait for a little while, as the series is set to come back on March 10.
