Dame Helen Mirren is on Team Sussex, and she's applauding Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's decision to step back from their royal roles. The actress, who played Queen Elizabeth in the movies and on stage, also said that Meghan is a fantastic addition to the royal family.

In an interview with Variety, Mirren said that Meghan is a charming person who "did everything right." To the actress, Meghan "didn't seem to be neurotic" despite reports from the press.

Mirren also praised Meghan and Prince Harry's decision to leave the royal family. She said that this might be a loss for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, but they had the right instincts to bolt to get over the trauma of being attacked in the tabloids all the time.

The award-winning actress knows a thing or two about being a royal, having played Her Majesty in the 2006 movie The Queen as well as in the Broadway production The Audience. In 2003, Queen Elizabeth appointed her the Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire (DBE) honors for her work in drama.

Mirren also met Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip in person for tea with a small number of people. She said that it was a lesson in handling embarrassment for her as she couldn't recall the protocol on how to address the Duke of Edinburgh. Nevertheless, Mirren said that Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip were lovely and utterly gracious.

The actress's view over this whole Megxit drama, however, echoes fashion designer Paul Costelloe's insight. Costelloe used to work with Princess Diana and believes that Prince Harry's mother will not be upset by his decision.

Speaking with Evoke, Costelloe said that Princess Diana was not a royalist, and she always placed the happiness of her children first than anything else. The designer believes that if the Princess of Wales were alive today, she would encourage Prince Harry and Meghan to do what they needed to do to sort out their life.

Prince Harry and Meghan are stepping back from their royal roles after March. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are going to pursue being financially independent of the Crown while staying in North America.

The royal couple, who will soon be enjoying their private life, decided to step back to avoid the royal spotlight. Prince Harry and Meghan want to raise their son as a normal kid and without the royal fanfare.
