Is Tom Holland starring in a potential Back to the Future remake? Rumors have been rife since a DeepFake video of the actor emerged with his face digitally superimposed in one of Michael J. Fox's scenes from the cult movie.
Holland recently addressed the viral video in a BBC Radio 1 interview. The Spider-Man star admitted that there were actually conversations about doing a Back to the Future remake before.
However, nothing has panned out from these talks as there are no current plans to redo the film. It might just as well be the case, however, since Holland's honest take is that the original Back to the Future trilogy can "never be made better" with a reboot or remake.
Nevertheless, Holland was pleased with the DeepFake video outcome, which also featured his Avengers co-star Robert Downey Jr. His face was superimposed to Christopher Lloyd's Doc.
Holland said that he'd be game to remake just that once scene from Back to the Future if Downey were also up for it. He commended whoever did the DeepFake as well and felt that they owe it to them to make the scene a reality.
This hasn't stopped Holland from talking about becoming his generation's Marty McFly, the pivotal character played by Fox in the Back to the Future movies. Holland loves to be complimented about the fact that he's got plenty of similarities with Fox.
Fans of Back to the Future have waited for a follow up for decades. Producers and director Bob Gale and Robert Zemeckis, however, have reiterated many times over that there will be no reboot or remakes to this iconic film.
The sci-fi movie Back to the Future was released in theaters in 1985, which featured Fox's Marty McFly accidentally traveling to 1955 because of the scientist Dr. Emmett "Doc" Brown. There, he meets his future parents, but the situation became complicated when his mother became attracted to him.
The second movie in the franchise came out in 1989 with Marty and Doc returning to 1955 to restore the timeline and correct a mistake that affected the future. The third movie came out a year later with Marty going to 1885 to help a trapped Doc out.
Meanwhile, the actor is set to work on the upcoming Uncharted movie. The film is based on the popular Sony PlayStation video game, where Holland plays the treasure hunter Nathan Drake. Mark Wahlberg is also in the cast as his mentor Victor Sullivan.
Currently, Holland may be seen in his latest film Onward with Chris Pratt.
