Our home is the haven we want to go after a long and stressful day at work or school. It is the very place where we feel at ease, safe, and well-protected. But did you know that germs can also reside even in our comfort zones? Sometimes they even multiply in places we least expect it to.

DISH SPONGES

Dish sponges are one of the most important things in our house. It was made to keep our dishes clean and secured from pathogens that could harm our body big time.

But in a study conducted by the National Sanitation Foundation (NSF), it was revealed how it could ironically become a home for dangerous bacteria, such as E. coli and salmonella. These bacteria are so powerful it could cause problems to our digestive tracts, which can lead to serious illnesses and even death.

Given this reason, it is a must to always sanitize your sponge. Or though it would mean an additional expense, changing your sponge now and then is also much better.

MAKEUP BRUSHES

Cosmetics can never be complete without a good set of brush, right? But did you know it could also be the perfect ground for pathogens too?

"If cosmetics, make-up, and applicators are not kept clean they can harbor excess skin oil, dead skin, and bacteria and skin pathogens, which result in microbial contamination", explains Gemma Clare, Holistic Health and Skincare Expert. These pathogens can cause a range of skin problems such as impetigo, pimples, boils, and rosacea. Furthermore, it can also harm the body as it can also cause infection and even loss of vision, sepsis, and meningitis, as enumerated by Dazed Digital.

To keep ourselves protected from all these, it is better to keep your beauty products clean. It is also crucial to wash your brushes often with water and soap.

TOOTHBRUSH

It might sound gross, but your mouth is the perfect environment for a lot of bacteria and viruses. With this, it is no wonder why the toothbrush you put inside your mouth is the third on our list.

Experts say, the more you use your toothbrush, the more contaminated it is. Viruses and bacteria often found in its bristles are Pseudomonas, E.coli, Staphylococcus aureus, and herpes simplex virus.

Aside from dish sponges, makeup brushes, and your toothbrush, there are still other grounds of germs and viruses inside your own homes. Other places you should always prioritize cleaning are your laundry machines, gadgets, pet toys, light switches, and handles, explained by WebMD.
