Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have decided that being senior royals is not for them anymore and announced that they will be stepping down from their roles. Despite their shocking announcement, Queen Elizabeth revealed via Buckingham Palace that she supports the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s decision.
However, a royal expert now claims that Queen Elizabeth is worried about the real motives of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle for deciding to quit Royal life. Julie Montagu Viscountess Hinchingbrooke even said that Her Majesty is set to "watch the Sussexes like a hawk.”
“She will want to see everything that they are doing, what they are making money from and how it is affecting the Royal Family,” the royal expert said during Channel 5 documentary, Royals: A family in crisis. “So there must be some concern from the Queen about what their intentions are.”
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are now gearing up for their new life outside the Royal Family after being fired from the Firm. Julie Montagu Viscountess Hinchingbrooke then added that Queen Elizabeth will be forced to adjust to their new norm without the Duke of Sussex in the picture.
However, experts argued that Queen Elizabeth had always maintained the reputation of the monarchy. So even though it was hard for Her Majesty to see her grandson go, she always put the Crown ahead of her personal matters.
“Queen Elizabeth II, and in many ways this is what we respect about her, is someone who, when push comes to shove, will put the welfare as she sees it of the monarchy above that of anyone else – herself or her beloved grandson included,” Royal historian Sarah Gristwood said.
Meanwhile, a previous report revealed that Queen Elizabeth was not too happy with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s withdrawal as the Royal Family would want to spend time with them, especially baby Archie. However, Her Majesty respects their decision and just assured them that they are always welcome to the family.
"It's fair to say she is very upset about him and Meghan leaving and she would love to see more of Archie, as would Prince Charles and the rest of the family,” they shared. “She made it very clear to him that he and Meghan are always able to come back if they change their minds and she will welcome them with open arms. Hopefully, the chat cleared the air and the way forward is looking more positive."
