The iPhone 12 series, particularly the iPhone 12 5G, is one of the most anticipated and highly awaited releases this year. Some analysts have high expectations of the upcoming flagship smartphone series from Apple. However, a new report claims that the iPhone 12 5G might meet some delays because of the current COVID-19 outbreak.
iPhone 12 5G Possible Delay
The latest information about the possible delayed release of the iPhone 12 5G comes from analysts of Bank of America and reported by Bloomberg. Analyst Wamsi Mohan claims that the anticipated Fall release of the iPhone 12 variant could be delayed for a month. The prediction comes following the analyst's discussion with Elliot Lan, an Apple supply chain expert.
iPhone SE 2 Delayed Release
Unlike the iPhone 12 5G that might face a month of delayed-release, the launch of the entry-level and much-awaited iPhone SE 2 might face several months of delay, according to the supply chain expert. Lan underlines the weaker demand created by the COVID-19 as well as supply issues. The supply chain expert adds that the launch and release of the upcoming iPhone 12 anticipated to launch this Fall would be dependent on the production in Apr. and May.
The prediction is further backed by a report from SCMP. The report cites high-profile analysts' claims about the delay of the iPhone 12 5G. It also points out issues suppliers are facing following suspended operations caused by the COVID-19.
Other Details
Foxconn, one of the major Apple suppliers in China, earlier announced that it intends to resume its normal operations at its facilities in China by the end of the month. However, this is not a solid assurance that Apple could launch its iPhone 12 series and iPhone SE 2 according to its original schedule.
Wedbush analyst Dan Ives earlier claimed that the recent issue is the perfect storm for Apple since its 925 million iPhone customers are in a 'window of upgrade opportunity.' The analyst said that "Clearly there will be some speed bumps along the way as Cupertino navigates the coronavirus outbreak," he writes. "However, we continue to focus on the golden installed base, pent up iPhone upgrade demand activity, and 5G super cycle on the horizon as core components of our bull thesis, along with the $50 billion+ annual services business."
The Cupertino giant is anticipated to launch four new iPhone 12 models that support 5G connectivity. The assortment of the iPhone 12 lineup, its advanced specs, and features, as well as the consumer's inclination to 5G, could all contribute to the demand for the iPhone this year.
