It appears there is another Apple product that was released with some defects in the iPad Air. The good news is that only a limited number of the 2019 iPad Air tablets are affected. The issue is reportedly tied up to these tablets, suddenly conking out with the screen going permanently blank for some reason.

Curiously, the Cupertino company did not issue any details on the reason why this is happening. The only thing revealed is that it affects only several 2019 3rd Gen iPad Air models and that there was a free service program available to rectify the problem, Slash Gear reported. No figures were given on how many iPad units are affected, but it is presumed to be low.

With the free Service Program, the move hints that the blank screen issue could be due to some manufacturing defect. If it was caused by a software update, Apple would normally roll out a fix to address the problem, although a dead-screen does not eliminate that as an issue.

For those who may be wondering what actual iPad Air models are affected, these are the ones manufactured between March and October 2019. The program is available globally and will last cover the iPads for up to 2 years from its actual purchase.

Also, folks who own the 2019 iPad Air tablet and plant to have them fixed may want to take note. The free service program only covers the screen blackout issue. Hence, other defects that may be found are likely to be charged extra since they are not covered by the offer.

Though it covers a select few of iPad Air units, it also casts a negative light on the recently resurrected tablet. It came out with a new design and a cheaper price, but the screen issue may have raised concerns on whether the company brought down the cost due to inferior components.

Regardless, the good news is that Apple is owning up to it and has given a free Service program to owners. It may be a slight discomfort since folks will have to bring it to a nearby service center. But then again, that would be better than ending up with a bricked Apple tablet.

Apple describes the issue as a brief flicker or flash before the screen goes blank permanently. It is advisable to take the unit for evaluation either to an Apple Store or an Apple Authorized Service provider. A technician will assess whether the tablet is part of the program, Macworld reported.
