Did you know women's immune system weakens once they become pregnant? Given this reason, a lot of times, these future moms are more prone to getting sick, as explained by the American PregnancyMost of them even suffer from the complications of these illnesses because of their body's weak defense in fighting off infections.

With this truth, a lot of people are getting more concerned with the situation of pregnant moms and their unborn babies amid the coronavirus pandemic. Are they more susceptible to the virus-like those who suffer from diabetes and hypertension? Are they more prone to negative effects like those who smoke? What do the experts say about this?

According to researchers, based on recent studies and instances regarding the virus, pregnant women don't seem to be more vulnerable to acquiring the coronavirus as compared to those who are not suffering from other illnesses. Furthermore, the experts also found no history that proves the virus can pass on to their newly born by birth or even through breastfeeding.

But though this is the case, the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health, Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists, and Royal College of Midwives advise precautionary measures to pregnant women who will be tested positive with the virus. According to the organizations, the suspected person should attend an obstetric unit first, for a safer delivery both for the mom and the baby.

Since the virus is still new and experts don't have sufficient data about it, researchers are looking forward to more information, which could confirm their hypothesis. "As this is a very new virus we are just beginning to learn about it, so the guidance will be kept under regular review as new evidence emerges", RCOG President, Dr. Edward Morris said.

Meanwhile, with the insufficient information regarding the link between pregnant women and the coronavirus, medical practitioners are assuring people they are doing their best to care for these future mommies tested positive for the virus. A recent case in China showed a 30-week pregnant woman tested positive with the virus, was put under mechanical ventilation, had an emergency cesarean section, but still has made an amazing recovery in the end. She and her baby are now safe and the woman completely recovered from the virus, as confirmed by Sky News.

As of the writing, the coronavirus cases all around the world have already reached more than 134 thousand. Death rates due to the virus, on the other hand, is almost five thousand, while those who have recovered are 70,388.
