After they officially step down as senior members of the royal family, Prince Harry, and Meghan Markle will return to the U.K. upon Queen Elizabeth II's request. The Sussexes may spend a holiday at Balmoral this summer with Her Majesty's invitation, and they may bring their son, Archie Harrison, with them.
It will be the first time that Archie, who will turn one this May, will return to the U.K. after residing in Canada for the last few months. The Times reported, via Hello! Magazine, that the kid may also accompany his parents when they also go back in the country in June to attend Trooping the Color. Aside from the Queen, the child will also spend time with his grandparents, Prince Charles and Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall.
According to The Sun, Queen Elizabeth was reportedly sad when Prince Harry and Meghan Markle didn't bring baby Archie with them when they returned to the U.K. to complete their final royal engagements. The kid was left in Canada with his nanny and his mother's friend, Jessica Mulroney.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle reportedly refused Queen Elizabeth's invitation to Balmoral last September that disappointed the 93-year-old monarch . Allegedly, the royal couple deemed Archie, who was only four months old at the time, was too young for the trip. On the contrary, they already took their child to Ibiza and Elton John's mansion in the south of France.
There are also reports that Queen Elizabeth is "heartbroken" after Archie moved to Canada. She even had her worst fear not to see the kid again and couldn't develop a close relationship with him as he would grow up away from the royal family.
"[The Queen is] heartbroken over the thought of not getting to see her great-grandson," a source told US Weekly. "The Queen would love to have a relationship with Archie, but it's looking unlikely that will ever happen."
However, the insider added that Queen Elizabeth remains to be optimistic about the matter and would never doubt Meghan Markle's character, despite everything that happened. Prince Harry is now back in Canada with his family, and his return is said to be a "poignant one."
After they have completed their royal engagements in the U.K., they now begin their new life in Canada. After Prince Harry and Meghan Markle officially step back from their royal duties on March 31, they will be free to pursue their own "business interests." However, the agreement will be under a one-year review. They also have to give up all their royal appointments and funding, and their Buckingham Palace office will also shut down.
