Queen Elizabeth II already canceled two royal engagements due to the coronavirus outbreak. With the ongoing scare, who else from the royal family should follow suit and self-isolate in line with Prime Minister Boris Johnson's new advice?
The Government is now preparing for the continuous increase of positive cases of CoVid-19 in the U.K. Hence, extra measures are now being applied to keep the people, especially the elderly who are susceptible to the disease, safe during this time of crisis.
According to Express, British journalist Robert Peston revealed that a "wartime-style" mobilization effort would be implemented in the coming weeks to combat the widespread of coronavirus. Part of it would be the order that people over 70 years old should stay at home. This protocol would be followed for up to four months.
If this measure gets implemented, members of the royal family also have to follow suit. Queen Elizabeth is about to turn 94 next month, while her husband, Prince Philip, is already 98 years old. Prince Charles and Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, on the other hand, are 71 and 72, respectively. So, they may all be put in isolation. Other members of the royal family who are part of the age bracket are the Duke and Duchess of Kent, the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester, and Her Majesty's cousin, Princess Alexandra.
BBC reported that Johnson advised everyone in the U.K. should avoid unimportant travel activities and contact with other people to curb coronavirus. As of this writing, the country already has 1,500 confirmed cases, but the actual number of people infected with the virus is believed to be between 35,000 and 50,000. The death toll, on the other hand, is already at 55.
Johnson also suggested that people should work from home if possible to follow the new measures. He also added that pregnant women, people over the age of 70, and those who have underlying health conditions should heed the advice and take it as an important matter.
People who belong in the at-risk bracket will be asked to stay at home for up to 12 weeks, including Queen Elizabeth, Prince Philip, Prince Charles, Camilla, and other senior royals. This drastic measure is said to be badly needed as the U.K.'s confirmed cases is rapidly growing. Johnson also told the Londoners to pay special attention to his advice as the virus is actively increasing in the U.K. capital than in other places.
