Sony has recently launched a counter attack against the aggressive approach of Microsoft for its next generation gaming console, Xbox Series X. The Japanese gaming giant recently held the Road to PS5 online event where it unveiled some more features and specs of the PS5. While many find the revelations a bit confusing, a former Xbox executive find the recent event not disappointing and believes that Sony is making a couple of smart moves.

On ResetEra forums, former Xbox Marketing Director Albert Penello was spotted talking about Sony's next generation gaming console, the PS5. The former Microsoft executive spent 17 years of his career with the Redmond-based tech giant and left in May 2018. Penello shared his thoughts about the Road to PS5 event as well as the things that Mark Cerny discussed.

Just like some PS5 fans, Penello was vocal about his confusion on the variable frequencies on both the CPU and GPU of the PS5. "Did I hear correctly? In order for the GPU to hit 2.3. Ghz, the CPU *cannot* be running full frequency as well?", Penello shared, "I have to admit I'm confused how the power-optimized balancing will work IRL."

One fan asked the former Xbox executive if he is impressed with the technical details of the PS5, as revealed by Cerny at the Road to PS5 event. Penello said he was not disappointed with the Japanese console maker, considering that he was not expecting that the upcoming PS5 could go over 9 TFLOPS. The former Xbox executive also admired Sony and claimed that it is making two very smart moves.

"I think they are making a couple very smart moves, actually", he replied. "Remember, I never thought it was going to be much over 9tflops so I'm not disappointed," he explained. "If this thing is actually $399, I think it's a great deal," Penello pointed out.

Apart from these, the former Xbox executive also mentioned in the thread the speed of PS5's solid state drive, which, as we all know, is extremely fast compared to that found inside the Xbox Series X. Penello noted that tat this point, he is not sure, which is the better gaming console in terms of price. "Well Xbox has a proprietary unit, and the internal SSD is soldered on the board," So I'm not sure which is better or worse."

Sony already announced that the Sony PS5 is coming anytime in the holiday of 2020. It is the same release window that Microsoft plans to release the Xbox Series X.
