The Los Angeles Lakers decided to cut DeMarcus Cousins last February to create a roster room but the team maintained its connection with the Boogie. The big man is still permitted to use the Lakers facilities for his rehab exercise and the expectation is he'll eventually return as a free agent.

The projection was Cousins will be hired back next season but the coronavirus outbreak led to the season getting suspended, and likely indefinitely. The development, while unfortunate, allowed recovering players like Cousins more time to work on their recovery. It is now possible that when the games are resumed, the former All-Star will be ready to play.

Per the Lakers Nation, there is a chance Cousins will be part of the Lakers crew to slug it out in the postseason since he is good terms with the Lakers' front office. And he certainly has the basketball skills that will help the LA club to win the NBA title.

"Cousins could jump back into the mix before they even started. As a free agent, it could serve him well to get a few games under his belt, particularly if he feels like he can compete at a level anywhere near his All-Star seasons," the report proposed.

Admittedly though, such a move by the Lakers could create unnecessary complications. For one, it seemed unwise to cause disruption too deep into the season as hiring back Cousins would force the team management to let go of somebody.

If such a decision must be made, Frank Vogel would be forced to decide on who to pick between Dwight Howard and JaVale McGee. It will be a hard decision for the head coach as the two big men are playing to expectations.

But having Cousins around will surely benefit the Lakers' title aspirations. For one, he certainly is familiar with the system that is in place with the club. Inquisitr said, Vogel will be happy to reinsert the big man to his inside rotation.

In addition, Cousins will be a welcome tandem for Anthony Davis at the frontcourt. The two should find it easy to work together as it will not be the first time. Cousins and AD were teammates with the New Orleans Pelicans.

In the end, Cousins is seen to deliver more premium than what Howard and McGee can afford. The Boogie can work board scoring and hauling down the ball. And he can snipe some from the three-point area as well, which should convince Vogel that he's got a gem in waiting in Cousins.

With Cousins on the floor, the workload carried by AD and LeBron James will be lighter as some can be entrusted on Cousins, who minus the injury woes is one player that can make things happen.
